rich 1.0 A woman admitted for thoughts about harming her children told a hospital those thoughts were gone. The hospital let her go home. Patrick Clancy took his wife to Massachusetts General on New Year's Eve 2022 after she disclosed intrusive thoughts about the children. She was moved to McLean in the early hours of January 1 and discharged five days later, on January 5, after asking to leave. Tony Brueski and Robin Dreeke, who ran the FBI's Counterintelligence Behavioral Analysis Program, work through what that decision rested on. Patrick testified he did not know she had requested the discharge. He said he was not aware she had been offered daily one-on-one therapy, and not aware she had declined further group sessions. He described visiting and hearing that it did not seem like she was getting treatment, with a weekend and an observed holiday delaying her first appointment with a doctor. The reason she wanted out was her daughter's fifth birthday party. It was held on January 7. Cora died on January 24. Dreeke spent twenty-one years determining whether people were telling him the truth about their own minds, often when they had every reason not to. He explains the limits of what any clinician can confirm when a patient reports the danger has passed. The circumstances of the three deaths are not in dispute. The trial is about criminal responsibility, and the state has to prove it. The people who made that call are expected to appear as witnesses.
