rich 1.0 Alex Murdaugh's defense team filed a motion in September 2026 claiming they never received the raw cell phone data that built the prosecution's timeline. The State responded with the defense's own paper trail — signed receipts, delivery memos, and an email where Jim Griffin called the State's handling "very accommodating." That email, now Exhibit H, is part of a filing that accuses the defense of misrepresenting what evidence they had and when they had it. But the filing also cracks open the investigation itself — and what SLED did and didn't do with the evidence is worse than what the defense is arguing about. Maggie Murdaugh's phone was recovered without a Faraday bag. The GPS data that could have tracked her phone's movement on the night she was killed was lost before it reached the lab. A SLED agent told a grand jury blood was on Alex's T-shirt. His own lab couldn't confirm it. Male DNA was found under Maggie's fingernails, and the one test designed to identify it was never performed. Instead of building a case around those real investigative failures, the defense told the court Alex passed a polygraph. No polygraph on the murders ever happened. They cited an unverified ballistic rumor from a FITSNews YouTube segment. The investigation had documented failures. The defense has documented credibility problems.
