Bridging Thinking Digital
Make a bridge to the future, get NGA throughout the country and there is your bridge. People aren't interested in rubbish connections, they aren't worth paying good hard earned money for and result in frustration. At the NGA consultation I went to today at preston I was sat at a table of councillors - all lived in a black area of supposedly good adsl coverage. All complained they got under a meg. They said they had fairly good connections at work, but didn't use broadband much at home because it was so bad, especially at peak times. The people in rural areas are much worse off as you know, many can only get dial up and no mobile either. The country has a relatively high take up compared to many. The third who can't get it aren't refuseniks, they just refuse to pay for a service that doesn't deliver what it says on the box. The victorian phone network has served its time, so now it is time for next gen, no more patch ups, no more excuses from the telcos, lets get on with the endgame. Fibre to the home for a real digitalbritain, and once people start to see and use and innovate then the ones who are 'resisting' won't need enticing over the bridge with 'free' laptops or adverts, they will join us on the inside. Worry not. You can lead an orse to water etc... lets just make the water so damn good and clean the old orses will quench their thirst at the font of all knowledge.
