IN CONVERSATION - Russia, the Beatles, revolution

Oct 22, 2012, 02:07 PM

In this edition VOR’s Tim Ecott speaks to the author and documentary film-maker Leslie Woodhead. He was one of the first journalists to work with The Beatles in their early days and he’s also been intimately connected to Russia. He’s written a new book – to be published in the early spring – and entitled ‘How the Beatles rocked the Kremlin’. In it he analyses the effect of popular music during the 1960s on Russia, and more widely its cultural power for people listening to western pop music, when much of it was officially banned.
