30 years after the UK miners' strike

It became a battle for Britain's industrial soul. And a defining moment for union power. It's 30 years since the start of what British people refer to quite simply as "the miners' strike" - a bitter, year-long protest against a programme of coal pit closures. It led to pitched battles between thousands of striking miners and police. Six miners died as a result. I've been reflecting on the tumultuous events of 1984 and early 1985 with Len Tingle, now the BBC's political editor for the Yorkshire region where many of the mines were located.
