Youth and Protest Movements in Africa
Interview with Dr. Alcinda Honwana, author of five books, including The Time of Youth: Work, Social Change and Politics in Africa (2012) and Youth and Revolution in Tunisia (2013). Professor Honwana is from Mozambique and is Visiting Scholar at The Open University in the UK. She completed her PhD in Social Anthropology at the University of London (SOAS). In this brief interview Dr. Honwana talks about links that youth in protest movements may have to universites, how development agencies may support the civil liberties and right to work and education of young people, and how young women engage in protest movements.
The interview was made at the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (Norad) on 4 April 2014. Dr. Honwana's visit to Norway was hosted by the Council for Africa in Oslo.
