“One little drink can’t hurt.” “I’ll smoke this last cigarette, then I’ll quit.” “This drug won’t hurt me if I only try it once.” Have you told yourself these little lies? Nobody means to develop a bad habit. Bad habits sneak up on us, and once they’re formed, they’re hard to break. You can decide now to resist behaviors that might become harmful habits—such as smoking or using alcohol and other drugs. Be confident in your decision not to experiment, practice saying no, and don’t worry that other people might think you’re wimpy or boring. In fact, you’re proving the opposite.
