Is obesity now a bigger risk to your health than smoking?

The Chief Executive of the NHS in England certainly thinks so.

Simon Stevens says obesity "represents a slow-motion car crash in terms of avoidable illness and rising health care costs".

So what can be done about it? Is it down to us to take responsibility for our health? Or should the NHS be doing more to prevent people becoming obese?
