A woman who was sentenced to death in Sudan for refusing to renounce her Christian faith, has told the BBC she believed her time in prison was ''a test''.

Mariam Ibrahim and her family are currently in the US, where a Christian foundation presented her with an award for her courage.

She gave birth to a daughter while in custody.

Speaking to the BBC's Tom Esslemont, she said there were currently people in jail in Sudan ''in worse conditions'' than she had been held in.
