When Islamist militants captured Timbuktu in 2012, they made it a crime to play music. For the members of the band Songhoy Blues led by Alio Toure this was devastating news. They had to flee south to the Capital, Bamako. Their track Desert Melody - featured on Africa Beats on BBC World TV on Friday and also on the BBC Africa You tube page - is inspired by the trauma of that occupation. Listen:
