The Ghent Six-Day

This week, Lionel Birnie takes a trip to Ghent in Belgium to sample the atmosphere at the greatest Six-Day race on the track racing circuit.

The Kuipke velodrome in the Citadelpark is noisy and the crowd is passionate about cycling and it was into this arena that Mark Cavendish made his return to top-class track racing with the home town favourite Iljo Keisse.

Between evening sessions at the track, Lionel rode his bike to the Centrum Ronde Van Vlaanderen – the Tour of Flanders museum – in Oudenaarde and took in some of the famous cobbled climbs that characterise the spring Classics.

With Richard Moore and Daniel Friebe away, this episode of the podcast has a different feel but if you love Belgian cycling, or just want to learn a bit more, hopefully you'll enjoy it.
