Alastair Campbell has exclusively told LBC 97.3 that he is considering becoming an MP.

Tony Blair's former press chief told Iain Dale that he is thinking about standing as a Labour candidate in the next general election in 2015.

Asked if he would stand as an MP, Mr Campbell said: "All I'll say to you is I get a lot of people asking me, particularly when I'm up here, and I do think about it and I am thinking about it and I don't think there's a fantastic rush.

"We sort of know when the next election is."

The former journalist worked for Blair in opposition from 1994 and inside 10 Downing Street as press secretary and director of communications from 1997-2003.
