Downton Abbey Series 5

A policeman comes calling at Downton Abbey in this Sunday's (Sept 28 2014) ITV episode two of series five. Writer and series creator Julian Fellowes can be relied upon to surprise viewers. So with the aftermath of the death of Lord Gillingham's valet Green in the last series set to rumble on in series five, I wonder if there is a twist somewhere ahead. The suspicion, of course, is that John Bates (Brendan Coyle) took a train from York to London and pushed Green to his death in the London traffic - an act of revenge after learning that Green raped his wife Anna (Joanne Froggatt). Is Bates guilty, as Anna, Lady Mary and Mrs Hughes all fear? Or an innocent man? I don't know how this storyline concludes. But bearing in mind how Julian sometimes likes to play with the audience, I asked Brendan and Joanne about it at the Downton Abbey series five launch. Their - very short - reply was, almost, in unison...
