Bangladesh 2014 pre-election report amid rising tension and violence

The only English language BBC News radio reporter in Bangladesh at the time of the election, Rani Singh found a capital city under curfew, with road blocks, a heavy police presence and extreme violence on the streets. Journalists were being firebombed in their cars, and conditions were generally unsafe. While looking at possible breeding grounds for extremist Islamism, she became the first foreign journalist, and the first female to be allowed into a hard line Deobandi madrassa, or Islamic school, in central Dhaka.
