Roadshow

Episode 31,   Jul 16, 2011, 11:51 PM

The Radio One Roadshow, launched in 1973, was a phenomenon.

Seventies music stars were not always essential to draw the crowds; the disc jockeys alone were often sufficient, escaping from the medium wave into the open air in their coloured nylon shirts or branded jackets. Maybe the seventies were such a dull decade, that mere radio presenters in shorts were enough to cause a stir.

A great Johnny Beerling idea, superbly executed. A time. A place.

Every commercial jock who turned up to three people on a wobbly stage and 'Dave Double Decks' on the mic, with ten raffles to draw dreamed of this sort of 'roadshow'. #RadioOne #Roadshow
