Singer/journalist/actor Antoneosoul is an artist who believes his music resonates with your soul. Fabled for leading his class three into song, his interest in music started at Lavington Primary in the suburbs of Nairobi. “People would say this is Anto, the guy who sings neosoul,” said Antony Mwangi, “and just like that I became Antoneosoul.” Anto, who is a 2009 MTV Africa Music Awards Nominee, writes his own music. He wrote the Internews song that he first performed during the rebranding of the Internews Kenya media resource center, the WriteSpot. (Mark, pls use the cool lettering here plus hyperlink to WriteSpot). “After you briefed me on the event, I just thought about metaphors and symbolic words,” He says, “I think it is a talent I have.” Anto’s on stage persona is a “rollercoaster of music and acting”, he says. He combines his unique wide vocal range with a tinge of poetry and dance moves that usually shake the room into jives. He performs accompanied with his 6 piece band, Paragasha. “To indicate admiration for a boy or girl, people used to say ‘When I see you my heart goes paragasha’, and for me I took it to mean when words fail, music speaks. That’s why I called my band Paragasha.” Anto is not all about the stage. He is diversifying into more than music and acting. “I am hoping journalism will be my investment and not a fall back plan because I love production, film, videos. My out of camera in me comes out.”
