Kieran Trippier: right back where it started

May 22, 05:01 PM
This is the story of Kieran Trippier at Newcastle, as told by those who saw him catalyse a transformation of the team's fortunes. His emotional send-off at St James's Park on Sunday was richly deserved; he may be the most important purchase in the club's modern history.
After buying the club, the Saudi PiF consortium headed up by Amanda Staveley and Mehrdad Ghodoussi made Trippier their first signing. That opened the door for Bruno Guimaraes and Dan Burn to follow that month, flipping the script that season and in the years to follow.
While his contributions on the pitch have been remarkable, he is praised as much for his off-field work by Staveley, Burn, Wor Flags' Thomas Concannon, Eddie Howe, and another legendary Newcastle right-back, Warren Barton.
