Residents vs students - Cork report.

Bins set on fire, rubbish not collected for weeks, cars damaged, all night parties, broken windows, threats of violence and abuse - these are just some of the problems residents in Cork living near two third levels colleges say they face on a weekly basis. And some of them have had enough. In recent weeks, some very frustrated residents living near University College Cork and the Cork Institute of Technology have called for a levy to be imposed on students so that they can hire security to protect their homes from rowdy behaviour. Residents are now so frustrated with what they say is years of disruption to their lives that they are threatening to take their protest onto the streets of Cork. Over the last week, I spent time in the college area hearing residents concerns and also out on patrol with local GardaĆ trying to contain the problem. Report from Today with Pat Kenny on RTE Radio1
