Boo #9: Remaking GOOD writing habits...

Apr 28, 2014, 07:53 PM

"Ha-ha-ha, he-he-he, I'm the laughing gnome and you can't catch me!" - that line from the David Bowie song pretty much sums up the state of my scribbles this month as I've hit a bit of a roadblock in my road of writing... The gnomes in my story are hiding off the well-worn track and taunting me with whispers of their hidden tales which I can't quite hear from where I'm currently travelling (no, I'm sure it's not just the voices in my head again!)

The point is, every writer hits these stumbling blocks along the way to discovering their own stories and I guess the important thing isn't to stress about it, but how you cope and deal with it as you wait for the inevitable (and glorious) escape from this "dry patch" of creative writing. Have faith, you will emerge on the other side! My own way of coping with such periods is to get on and be creative in other ways, so that's why I've been adding some creative sound to my Official Writing Website this month...

Go to:

and click on any object to hear a soundbite particular to each page, giving a small insight into the story of each tale contained within the site itself...

I mentioned in this Boo about how when writing "my space saga" a few years ago, I got up early before the day job each morning to write for around an hour, and how productive this proved to be in combating a bout of writer's block back then - well, you can read more on this process at my blog entry rounding up that period here:

And here's the link for that other writer I said I was reading in the Boo - Cynthia Liu - her book on Writing for Kids and Teens is really inspiring and highly recommended: http://www.cynthealiu.com/
