I smelled a rat from the moment I perused the label with my magnifier. A beer to go with every conceivable kind of food, it claimed to be. What brew, I wondered, could possibly soften the harsh spices of a hot curry, whilst enlivening traditional fish and chips; or sweeten bitter lemons whilst contrasting with the sweetest ice cream? What liquid, other than one with the blandness of tap water, could be all things to all people?
