Paul Martin's Business Update - November 8th

This is a critical time of year for many who earn their livelihood in the province’s agricultural sector.

With the annual harvest season now behind us, farmers and ranchers and their suppliers are shifting from field work to show time. The biggest one here is Agribition which starts in a couple days. The annual cattle show has been expanded to include a grain grower component and this year an exploration of opportunities in agriculture for the Aboriginal community. It begins early this year to make space for the Grey Cup that is being hosted in Regina.

And while producers will be headed to the Brandt Centre in Regina, many in the farm machinery business will be headed to Germany. Saskatchewan will have its biggest presence ever at Agritechnica, the monstrous European trade show dedicated to farm equipment, with two dozen companies joining forces in a display area co-ordinated by STEP. It will also host a trade mission headed by Economy minister Bill Boyd who will provide political support to the local businesses who are expecting to ink as much as $75 million worth of new sales.
