Paul Martin's Business Update - December 31st

It’s that time when we reflect on the events of the past year – our achievements as well as the goals we didn’t meet – and we now begin to think about what we’ll do better in the coming year.

A survey compiled by the folks at BMO Bank of Montreal says money matters will make the top two on our list of New Year’s resolutions for 2014. Only health and fitness trump finances.

The Bank’s survey showed 51% of us will be making plans to improve our health and fitness in the coming year. That compares to 36 per cent who said money makes their world go round and they plan to get a better handle on it in the next twelve months.

In Saskatchewan more than 80 per cent of us plan to make a New Year’s resolution. But money is slightly less important than for other Canadians with only 31 per cent of us making that #1. And we’re pretty good at keeping our resolutions: 37% of us have made and achieved a financial goal in previous years.
