Scraponomics Episode 45: Explosion at a Recycling Facility in Granite City, IL.

Two weeks ago in Granite City, IL., there was an explosion at a recycling facility that had received mortar shells as scrap material. Allegedly, the shells were merely sitting in a wooden crate when one of them exploded, killing two of the facility’s employees. Our hearts go out to those employees’ families.

Reading this reminded me of how many times we are asked if we take ammunition shells for recycling. After all, the shells tend to be yellow brass. However, as it turns out, we don’t. Here’s why...
