The global humanitarian crisis has dominated headlines this year, with hundreds of thousands of people fleeing countries torn apart by conflict.
About 100 Syrian refugees are expected to arrive in Northern Ireland before Christmas, but some who are already here say they live under a cloud of fear and intimidation.
Now one group has found a peaceful retreat in part of Northern Ireland's spectacular landscape.
