A rally was held in Bangor to support a community worker beaten with a hammer by masked men in his home. A faction of the UDA is being blamed for attacking Aaron McMahon in front of his family. He's a community volunteer, and believes he was targeted for leading a campaign against UDA activity in the Clandeboye area of the town. Mr McMahon has criticised police and politicians for not doing enough to combat paramilitaries. The ongoing threat of violence on our streets was also highlighted in west Belfast last night, with a gun attack on police. The Fresh Start political deal struck at Stormont last week includes new initiatives to end paramilitarism.
