The Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada is investigating a Facebook page used by north coast First Nations. Members of the page often trade salmon, ooligan grease, and other seafood delicacies. They also trade cockles, a north coast shellfish that is banned because of concerns over paralytic toxins.

Charles Menzies, a professor of anthropology at UBC, a member of the Gitxaała Nation, and a fan of the north coast cockle. He says the issue is DFO doesn't have the resources to properly monitor cockles and their safety. He also says it's a surprising move given the new federal government's recent rhetoric about improving relationships with First Nations.
