Welcome to the Summer copy of the insight magazine. This Issue includes how our TEWV staff are 'living the values', PAT dogs joining the Trust and supporting mental health Awareness weeks, along with other stories from around the Trust.

One of our most important priorities for the next three years is delivering our recovery strategy.

February and March 2017 - Living the Values is the chairman's award for staff who have made a difference to service users, carers and families, colleagues or other customers.

The Trust hosted a successful national children and young people’s mental health conference called ‘Let’s Walk Together’, in conjunction with Positive Practice in Mental Health, in May.

York and Selby child and adolescent mental health services (CAMHS) now provides a single point of access (SPA) for children and young people referrals.

The Trust has been chosen by NHS England as one of two children and young people’s mental health ‘model of care’ pilot sites.

Humanitarian and author Terry Waite CBE is a guest speaker at this year’s Faculty of Psychology for Older People (FPOP) conference being co-hosted by the Trust.

The Trust’s offender health mental health teams are pleased to announce the arrival of two new team members – PAT dogs Cooper and Spud.

Ruth Raven, senior nurse practice placement facilitator, Bootham Park Hospital, York, is a 'Breeze' champion.

Trust staff will hit the streets of Durham this July in a double running challenge.

The Trust’s mental health and deafness service provides mental health support to deaf service users in County Durham,Darlington and Teesside.

The Trust’s community mental health services team for older people in Redcar and Cleveland is moving to a new home.

We’ve been out and about over the past few months at events around the UK to recruit new nurses to the Trust.

As well as caring for and treating people in our hospitals and in the community, Trust staff support offenders in prisons across the Trustwho have mental ill health.

We’re working with Durham County Carers Support (DCCS) to help Durham and Darlington carers learn more about mental health illnesses and the treatment and care the Trust provides.

Artwork by east Durham school children is brightening the walls of The Old Vicarage in Seaham - our Easington older people’s community mental health team base.

We are committed to giving staff access to training and development opportunities to help them realise their potential in their current job or prepare for their next post with the rust; Talent Management helps achieve this.

As part of a Trust competition, artistic service users from child and adolescent mental health services (CAMHS) have beengetting creative and designing artwork to feature on voucher wallets which are sent to young people with their payment forany Trust involvement activities they take part in.

The Trust’s new Recovery College Online website is now live.

A trial using iPads to carry out cognitive assessments in Redcar children’s services has seen positive results. With Q-interactive™ the examiner and the examinee each have synced iPads, so the examiner can see responses, as well as controllingthe patient’s screen view.

Every day across the healthcare sector in England more than amillion decisions are made that have a profound and lastingimpact on people's lives and which influence the quality of healthcareand the cost of services.

Work is underway across the Trust to help staff become moreautism aware.

The Trust’s second #icanpreventdelirium conference took place in January focussing on the ‘suspect it, spot it, stop it’ message when it comes to delirium in care homes and acute settings.

We’ve recruited five new members of staff to work alongside other health and social care colleagues to provide improved, joined-up care for residents in Harrogate, Ripon andKnaresborough.

Parkside Mental Health Resource Centre (MHRC) in Middlesbrough has been officially opened by Trust chairman Lesley Bessant.

Veterans wellbeing assessment and liaison service (VWALS) support worker David Findlay has helped 93-year-old veteran George Skipper settle into life as a Chelsea Pensioner.

Service users in the forensic learning disability inpatient service at Ridgeway, Roseberry Park, Middlesbrough have been brushing up on their literacy and numeracy skills.

Quality research evidence plays an important part in the delivery of our services and improving the quality of the care we provide.

The Making a Difference Awards 2016 was special in many ways.

The Trust’s Innovation Fund has provided £55,000 to six voluntary / community programmes in the York and Selby area to deliver projects to local people who are living with, or at risk of mental ill health and learning disabilities.

Trust staff have walked their way to Tokyo or thereabouts as part of a pedometer challenge.

19 public governor seats are available from 1 July 2017 due to tenures coming to an end and we are looking for new candidates.

Simon Hughes has been a staff governor since the start of the Foundation Trust in 2008 and in June 2017 he will have served nine years, the maximum amount of time a staff governor can be in post before stepping down.

Spirituality and the role it has to play in mental health recovery is the focus of the Trust’s next spirituality conference which will be held at Durham University in July.

Clinical staff across the Trust are taking part in mindfulness courses with their service users in mind.

Three colleagues were named as winners at theprestigious North East NHS Leadership Recognition Awards(NELA) held earlier this year.

Coleen Mercer-Quinn (pictured), who recentlyretired as a highly specialist clinical/counsellingpsychologist, Lakeside community mentalhealth team, Middlesbrough, has become theTrust’s first member of staff to be awarded theBritish Psychological Society (BPS) Fellowship.

It's a year since we launched our PPCS programme, the largest and most significant initiative the Trust has attempted in recent years.
