Joining hands

A year ago the volunteering charity CSV and BBC Radio Kent teamed up with Ashford-based social enterprise, Joining Hands, to collect and refurbish unwanted computer equipment. Through on-air appeals, seven hundred pieces of equipment were donated by listeners, and some of it was sold to raise funds for community projects. It also provided the means for twenty four unemployed youngsters to learn about computers and set up their own computer repair business. CSV’s Ian Harkness has been looking back at the success of the scheme over the year which, its hoped, will soon become self-sustaining
