Tommy Vance - Radio 1 Top 40 - 1991

Episode 640,   Jan 09, 2013, 07:36 PM

What a voice. TV on the radio. Tommy Vance.

Like many, he grasped a radio name from thin air at the outset. The TV name he adopted stemmed from some otherwise unused namechecks. If only we could all name ourselves after our favourite jingle. Who would you be?

From KOL in Seattle, to KHJ in LA, to Radio Caroline, Luxembourg and the pirate Radio London. Tommy was part of the huge launch team at Radio 1 in 1967; and at the start of Capital in London. Back at the Beeb, he hosted ‘the Friday Rock Show on Radio 1; and the Top 40 from 82-84.

After a spell at GLR, he joined the new Virgin Radio.

‘Tommy’ died in 2005.
