Aboriginal protesters are campaigning against what they say are Victorian government plans to sell a sacred site in Melbourne to developers.

They say the Ballerrt Mooroop site in the northern suburn of Glenroy includes a spiritual healing tree and ceremonial ground.

Tensions over the site go back to 2011, when the Ballerrt Mooroop College was closed, with the state government claiming low student numbers.

But Convenor of the Ballerrt Mooroop Support Group, Barbara Williams-Weston argues the government set about a deliberate policy to see the school fail so the land could be taken over for development.
