Trippin' - from Eric Alexander, In Europe - with Bobby Broom, Melvin Rhyne and Joe Farnsworth

We've lost yet another great, unheralded master of our music, Melvin Rhyne. He is among the most original voices in jazz on his instrument of choice, Hammond B3 organ.

He was also an integral member of one of the great jazz groups of the late 1950's and early '60s, the Wes Montgomery trio. This group, also ashamedly unheralded, was one with a unique and captivating sound that existed around the same time as Miles', Trane's and others' famous groups.

Melvin's sophisticated and personal approach not only to harmony and melodicism, but also to the sound he drew from the B3 makes him one of a kind. I'm humbled and proud to have been able to play with him and even moreso, that it's documented... Perhaps whoever opens the cache in the future won't be as ignorant as we can sometimes be.
