Bob Holness reading IRN in 1975

Episode 702,   Apr 28, 2013, 09:28 PM

Whilst Bob Holness is renowned for his TV work, his radio efforts are certainly worthy of note. His career began on that wonderful ‘Late Night Extra’ programme on the BBC Light Programme/Radio 2, before moving to LBC as half of the well-remembered Holness/Cameron partnership.

Bob returned to Radio 2; and to the World Service until the late 90s. He died in 2012.

Listen here to Bob reading the IRN news, which he did as part of the LBC programme. Back then, some stations around the UK added their local news to the IRN bulletin, rather than mix it up, hence this peak-rime IRN bulletin would have been heard on quite a few stations. This audio is culled from a medium wave recording of the Radio Tees first day on air. Hear too contributions from Douglas Moffat and, from BRMB, Colin Palmer.
