Farmers and their families must be more aware of the dangers for children, say health and safety experts

Accessible slurry pits and large pieces of machinery not being turned off properly are just some of the perils facing children on farms. Last year, four children were killed on Irish farms, and on the publication of the agency’s 2013 report Ireland’s Health and Safety Authority (HSA) said it was “particularly concerned” that there were such young victims of 'workplace accidents'. Speaking to Tim Barnes-Clay, Michelle Peate-Morgan of IOSH - the world largest health and safety body -made clear that any fatality in the workplace is a tragedy.
