Hard and Soft S-sound

Here are some pairs of Russian words with hard and soft S:

S in the middle: коса - косяк (scythe - door-post) косынка - косить (kerchief - to mow) посол - посёлок (ambassador - village) досуг - всюду (free time - everywhere)

S is the first character:

сад - сядь (garden - sit) сом - сёмга (cat-fish - salmon) сыр - синий (cheese - blue) судья - сюжет (a judge - a plot) сэр - серый (sir - gray)

S is the last character or before another hard consonant: вес - весь (weight - whole) лоск - лось (gloss - moose) мыс - рысь (cape - lynx) скис - окись (got soured - oxide) вкус - гусь (taste - goose).
