Paul Martin's Business Update - April 17th, 2014

American speaker and corporate advisor Mary Lore was reflecting this week on doing her income taxes – the deadline for filing in the US is the 15th – and she came up with a novel angle on the annual process most of us dread. She sees it as a positive experience.

Her reasoning is straight forward. Tax time is when you reflect on the things you did in the past year – your income, your expenses, your investments and so on. As you go through each receipt, she offers, you get to decide if you are happy with the decisions you made last year.

With the benefit of 20/20 hindsight, you can determine if your day-to-day decisions align with your values or your life vision, she offers. Interestingly tax time comes just a few months after we make New Year’s resolutions and provides a stark reminder of whether or not actions match up with our goals. And to celebrate when they do come together.

This time for reflection, she says, is important because reflection leads to inspiration and is a check point on the road of life.
