My Thoughts on Expectations; They Can Be Dangerous!

I found this particular thread to be very intriguing. Is it fair to have expectations of people beyond the realm of common courtesy if we hardly know them? What is it about people sharing bits of themselves that causes us to hold any form of expectation in the first place? For myself, I find it's one thing to identify with those who share bits of their lives with the public, and quite another to hold any sort of expectation of them, solely based upon my perception of their character because of the content they've chosen to share. I start to feel incredibly presumptuous when I find myself expecting things of people I may not really know, unless we have taken an additional step toward cementing an actual friendship. Can I really ask more of a stranger than that he/she behave toward me with common courtesy? I don't think so…
