NEWS: Scottish Lib Dem leader Willie Rennie on the death of Maitland Mackie

Tributes are being paid to the North East's ice cream tycoon, who's died at the age of 76.

Maitland Mackie was diagnosed with a brain tumour earlier this year - just weeks after the death of his wife Halldis.

He was a larger than life figure, who didn't just concentrate on his business interests.

He was also rector of Aberdeen University, director of the then Scottish Agricultural College, a passionate campaigner for windfarms and a Scottish Parliament candidate for the Lib Dems.
