Inverness-based firearms officers have spoken exclusively to MFR News about carrying out routine police duties while armed. Highland politicians say they're concerned about safety and public relations. But Police Scotland say armed police are not creating a barrier between law enforcement and the public. MP for Inverness, Nairn, Badenoch & Strathspey Danny Alexander has said: "I welcome Chief Superintendent Juliann Innes’ willingness to speak with local representatives on this matter. "The issue is not simply one of poor communication of the tactic, it is of the tactic itself. "We live in one of the safest regions in the UK and local officers do a fantastic job for their communities. "There is simply no need for bobbies to carry fire-arms for regular duties and Police Scotland should re-think this strategy."
