Week 2: *Crash* & "Long Black Song"

I believe that we almost always have options; however, we don't always have choices. Sometimes, our "choices" are coerced, so those are not real choices. Coercion can come in all kinds of forms. Sometimes, it's explicit but other times it's unspoken. Reflecting upon the excerpt of Crash, answer two questions: Did Cameron have a genuine choice or was he coerced? In what ways did the police officer have authority or power over Cameron?

The situation that Cameron found himself in is very much like the situation that Silas found himself in in "Long Black Song." So, apply those same definitions and questions to the short story as you write your first Reading Response.

Listen to my recording. Then, hear what your classmates had to say. Finally, click "Record a Comment" to add your thoughts to the discussion.

Make sure that your response boo has two parts in the same recording: First, respectfully comment on another student's post by which you found to be incomplete, inaccurate, or otherwise noteworthy. Name the student, paraphrase or quote the comment, and then add your reaction. Simply saying that you agree or you liked it is not sufficient. Then, in the main part of the response, answer the questions that I asked. You get 2 pts for your comments to another student and up to 8 pts for your answers to my question. Both parts should be in a single boo.
