The #OnThisDay take on the anniversary of #KingRichardIII usurping his nephew Edward V on this day in 1483. Having been named Lord Protector of the realm, Richard escorted his nephew to the #TowerofLondon, later joined by his brother. Despite plans for a coronation things went awry when Edward's parents' marriage was declared invalid, making he and his brother Richard illegitimate and ineligible for the throne. The two boys later disappeared from the Tower, believed to have been murdered by their uncle...although the debate on the incident continues!
