South Sudan celebrates third anniversary "with sadness"

"People will celebrate with sadness", says Faisal Muhammad Salih from the Khartoum Daily newspaper. Today marks the third anniversary of South Sudan's independence. But many of its residents feel that the world's youngest nation has little cause for celebration. Continued fighting and civil unrest has led to the displacement of 1.5 million civilians, and there are fears of a possible famine as the country enters into its rainy season. Najib Dam Gamaradin, from Sudan's Al-Akhbar daily newspaper, argues that inhabitants of the north and south are beginning to realise “their destiny is one”. Both journalists told the BBC's Damian Zane why they think #Sudan and #SouthSudan need to rethink their relationship.
