Tony Blackburn & Noel Edmonds make up

Episode 901,   Jul 25, 2014, 08:59 PM

In 67, Tony Blackburn was given the show he was born to host: the Radio 1 breakfast show. It amassed huge audiences, with no UK commercial radio, and very few remaining pirates.

Almost six years later, the Blackburn smile faded as his show was awarded to his colleague Noel Edmonds, in June 1973. The 9.00 handovers were compulsive listening, given the Nation knew that, through the smiles, Tony felt that this bearded interloper had stolen his crown. In truth, in so many different ways, both were truly, truly brilliant.

Much water has flowed under many bridges, so how lovely to hear this conversation, aired on a networked BBC Local Radio shows on the night of Tony's 50th anniversary in radio.
