President Obama has described it as a "truly historic event" - the largest ever gathering any American president has hosted with African heads of state and government.

50 leaders have been invited to Washington, and most are expected to attend, at a summit this week which is heavily focused on business and trade.

But it comes amid accusations that President Obama is playing catch-up with China's growing influence in Africa, and accusations that Mr Obama hasn't shown enough interest in the continent where his father was born.

We also speak with Jay Ireland, President and CEO of GE Africa, which has promised investment of two billion dollars in Africa over the next four years.
