Should firefighters be used to stand in for paramedics in rural British Columbia?

The issue of ambulance care in rural British Columbia is being raised after a Skidegate man died on Haida Gwaii in case an emergency care doctor says could have been prevented with better staffing levels. Mike Hurley is the president of the British Columbia Firefighters Association and he thinks that more medical training should be given to his members in order to help offset the gaps in care.
