There were only Adam eyes

There were only Adam eyes, Brown and warm and safe and dry, Grounded, humble, mired earth Whence we take our Bibled birth, Walled-in Eden, mislaid lust, Naïvely satisfactory dust, . Till I tumbled into you, Fell in iris-oceans blue, Surging seas where Venus came, Born in froth so spuming named. I writhed within unfathomed depths, Gulped in brine and gasped in breath. . Now both knowing loamy clay and dirt, Foamy spray and salt-sea spurts, Given choice of blue or brown, I’ll either swim or, eager, drown.
