Conservative MP Switches to UKIP - Mike Parr BBC Tees

Conservative MP Douglas Carswell has defected to UKIP. There will now be a by-election in Clacton and Mr Carswell will stand as a UKIP candidate.
At the moment he has a majority of 12,000 so at the moment it's a very safe Tory seat. If Douglas Carswell wins he will become the first UKIP member of parliament. The real worry for the Conservatives is that if he DOES win...more MP's will defect.
This has really taken the Conservative Party by surprise.
