Catalonia independence supporters watch Scotland vote closely

A verdict in favour of independence in Scotland would be a huge boost to campaigns for separatism elsewhere in Europe, especially in Spain.

The Spanish prime minister, Mariano Rajoy, told his country's parliament today that such independence votes "torpedo" the foundations of the European Union, and could wreak economic recession.

Supporters of independence for the north-eastern Spanish region of Catalonia want to hold a referendum of their own on November 9th. Mariano Rajoy's Madrid government though has refused to recognise the vote.

And that's causing anger, as the BBC's Guy Hedgecoe reports from the Catalan capital, Barcelona.
