Excavating Sheppey's WW1 trenches - BBC Radio Kent report

One of the most extensive trench warfare networks of the First World War isn't to be found on the Western Front, it’s to be found here in Kent. In 1914 Britain's military leaders were bracing themselves for an invasion by German troops and large resources were put into protecting the Isle of Sheppey and its dockyard. The result is eleven miles of trenches which, until recently, had lain undiscovered. Its now to be excavated in a project of national significance, and young volunteers from CSV Action Network in Kent joined the dig.
