One of the most well-known names in Saskatchewan commercial circles has been named Business Leader of the year by the provincial Chamber of Commerce.
Each year the Chamber honors one of its own as part of its ABEX awards presentation marking small business month. This year’s recipient is Paul Hill, the third-generation leader of the Regina-based family which has been in business for more years than Saskatchewan has been a province.
The Hill family – which established itself in the insurance and real estate businesses and even sold the land to the government to build the Legislative Buildings – has carved a global reputation in both the world of commerce and philanthropy. Since its beginnings in Regina, the family’s interests have expanded across Western Canada and into the United States in everything from insurance and real estate development to oil production, broadcasting and manufacturing.
The family is also well-known for its support of education including Notre Dame College at Wilcox, the business school at the University of Regina, now called the Paul J Hill School of Business, and sparking creation of the innovative inner city Mother Teresa Middle School in the Queen City.
