On 11th October 2014, the huge broadcaster from Barnsley told Stephen Nolan on BBC 5 Live about her gender dysphoria. In so doing, Hirsty helped others to make their own tough decisions - there is no doubt opinion has shifted and understanding has grown since this broadcast which, at the time, was to surprise listeners and colleagues.
